We're under attack!

About fifteen minutes ago I heard a loud rumbling noise. It sounded like a helicopter was right outside my window. That's because there was a FRICKEN HELICOPTER RIGHT OUTSIDE MY WINDOW! In fact, four of them. I glanced outside and I caught a glimpse of a huge green military helicopter, with the words “United States of America” written on the side, disappear behind the trees adjacent to the field across the street. When most people in the world would hide under their bed or go into a bomb shelter at the sight of a military helicopter, I did the opposite. I ran outside to investigate.

There was a Stanford police officer by the road near the field and I soon as I got there he warned me that when they take off they will send up a lot of debris. He acted as if this was common place. Common place?! There were four giant military helicopters with rotor blades spinning at full speed occupying the entire field in front of me. As I started to take pictures and video with my cell phone, the officer claimed they were doing something for the Stanford Hospital. Maybe Cheney had another heart attack? After a few minutes a crowd of spectators started to form as cars stopped on the side of the street. Almost as quickly as they landed, they took off and flew away one by one. We could see uniformed military inside the helicopter as it flew overhead. The pilot waved and they disappeared into the distance.

Update at 7:51 PM: They're back! Here are higher resolution photos and videos taken with my camera. The same police officer was there and this time he said the helicopters were “training”. Training for what? Training for a little coup d'tat perhaps?

Jack Bauer doesn't mess around. On that note, 24: The Movie starts out well enough, but kind of completely falls apart in the end. I don't think I could really recommend it with a straight face. America (i.e. Dae-Ho) misses you.

Yeah, so it turns out this was a practice run for a visit by President George W. Bush to Stanford. He ended up not showing up because of the overwhelming number of protestors. I was in Kaua'i at the time so I have no idea how it turned out.

Yeah I was going to say the “White-Top” helicopters are Presidential “Marine 1”, which would give it away. I believe they're the only white top mil helicopters?

I know I'm a year late on commenting, but I was going to suggest that a presidential visit is in order. Those are the military helicopters used in surveying presidential landing areas. They are the same green as the helicopters used to escort. They might have in fact actually been the presidential escort helicopters. Any weapons visible? Anywho, Marine 1-4 … yes there are 4 of them, are the only white tops as I believe. They are a cargo style though, and have two sets of rotor blades. I got to see them once, a long time ago when they came to the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia. Too bad it wasn't actually the president, if that was the case I'm sure you would have seen about 2-3 dozen marines drop off first and scatter into the tree's and building tops!!
